Syracuse has been on a major skid recently, and lost to St John's in a game that was never close. This looks like our best chance to win at the Dome since 2010, but we'll need to deviate from the traditional gameplan against the Zone.
I wasn't able to see any of the Las Vegas games, and I'll probably miss tomorrow night's game too, because Minnesota Football has their bowl game, so I'll wait until after Thursday's game against U-Mass Lowell to give my thoughts on non-conference play.
If Cornell wants to have any chance tomorrow night, they'll need to scrap the Princeton Offense, and keep Gettings and Warren down on the low block, with Wright, Bathurst, or even Smith, positioned at the foul line/high post. Stone/Josh have both made big improvements in their new roles, but Syracuse has too much length, and they'll get swallowed up by the zone. Also, if we try to slip Hatter or Morgan through the backdoor, Syracuse is athletic enough to recover, and block the shot nine times out of ten. The gameplan for tomorrow night needs to revolve around Morgan, and finding open looks for him behind the three point line.
Discuss the game here...

Strange to say watching a 24-point loss to maybe the least impressive SU team I've seen in years, but I was encouraged with our overall play. We just don't have the beef to play these Uber-athletic teams, but we defiinitely have a plan, which is refreshing after the past 6 years. The ball movement was good, but we passed up too many good looks. Gettings is clearly a better player this year, and Warren showed no fear playing in the Dome. We'll match-up more favorably against Ivy competition.
I just hope Earl can recruit the type of players he needs for his system. I am confident he knows what he's doing, and I'm hopeful we'll get some results the rest of the year and beyond. It's hard to be patient after so many lean years, but we have no other choice.

Also, any news on David O and just realized haven't seen Jordan A-R all season? In terms of Earl and his system, agree that we have a direction and having seen the Houston game in person and USC game on TV, the men have definitely improved and have had some very nice plays. Future is looking up.

Neither David O nor JAR traveled to the West Coast games, while Bunce did, which seemed odd to me. I was at USC game. Agree that the team is at the beginning of an upward trend in terms of playing to a system that can work with Ivy-level talent. Thankfully it is tailor-made for Gettings, and he is already here, but they need more guys like him. It's a less useful system for all the 6'2" athletes that Courtney recruited. I also think Morgan, although he fits the latter mold, is versatile enough to continue to grow with Earl. He's a very talented kid. When you watch them in person those two really stand out.

The game started well - we were able to take a lead and scored fairly easily - then Syracuse seemed to remember that they were taller and faster. They were able to block our shots and steal our passes and that seemed to drain our confidence. Gettings did well and I was impressed with Whiteside - he seemed confident and capable.

Brian Earl needs to recruit some taller centers....fast! Yes, from reading through the recruits mentioned, it appears 6' 6" is the tallest incoming Freshman.

Early returns would indicate that he's sticking to the East Coast for recruiting... perhaps that's one of the unintended consequences of bringing in a coach with no previous experience leading his own team.

Terrance McBride is from California, so there's that.
